100 Acts of Kindness & Charity

Dear friends of Doris McCarthy,

How would you like to join me in doing 100 acts of kindness & charity in Doris' name, large and small as we are counting down 100 days to her 100th birthday - July 7, 2010?

And you can forward the list to me once in awhile (or posted here on the blog) just so to share with Doris...She loves the idea. It will make her feel engaged and lift her spirit up. As many of us have been touched by her giving spirit, I thought it is a beautiful way to honor her. Often I am approached by people who want to help out with the celebration. I can't think of a better way...I am so inspired and motivated to reach one million acts of kindness and charity altogether in 100 days to honor our dear Doris.

So here is what I did so far just to give an idea that it does not have to be big:

1. picked up litters around my communal post box area
2. paid for a morning coffee for the car behind me at Tim Horton's drive thru
3. gave a ride to a fellow yogi after the class
4. cleaned the front garden of my neighbours
5. drop off grocery for Food Drive @ Gym
6. donate 100 dollars to Red Cross for earthquake victims
7. take my friend's teenage daughter and her friends who are art students to AGO for the afternoon on my membership as it's March break
8. bake cranberry orange walnut muffins for work to share

Hope you have fun getting started soon and keep me inspired with your list of ideas...I know many of us give daily several acts of kindness and charity as a way of life. It's just doing it while keeping Doris' giving spirit close to our hearts for next 100 days in order to celebrate her wonderful life. On her birthday, we will honor Doris by starting out the day by listing 100 gratitude....Please feel free to pass on the idea to others who want to join on the celebration.

Looking forward to hear from you.
Warmest Regards,
Cynthia and Jitka

  5. Thank you for creating this network of caring in honour of how Doris has always lived her life. It makes my heart sing to be part of it. Today I spent an hour giving my sister a pep talk on Windows Instant Messenger. It reminded me of all those spontaneous counselling sessions I have had with Doris over the years; about love and relationships, about art, about self-esteem, about counting your blessings, and above all, about the gift of friendship, of comraderie, of spreading goodwill and positive energy. Here's to you dear Doris for inspiring us all to live better lives!

  6. Since Doris is one of a kind, I feel none of the honours and accolades can ever do any justice to the woman and the artist that she has become through her own faith and determination. however, as we countdown 100 days to July 7tn, 2010 it's a beautiful way for all to participate in the celebration of honouring her 100 years of wonderful life. 7. Doris is so very very touched by the many great reponses sent to me by email. Doris starts her day by reading them and it is the best part of the day nowadays. It is a good reminder for Doris how she continues to touch our lives daily who have been blessed by her loving friendship and generous spirits. For manay of us giving acts of kindness has become a way of life for what it does for us and our sense of well being.
It's win/win all around like Linda Blinx has told me. Cynthia
